Bring your own AI keys, pay zero markup
On Free, BYOK is required — you supply your Anthropic / OpenAI / Google / Replicate key, and RUQA charges $0 in platform fees. On every paid tier, BYOK is optional. The RUQA subscription stays the same; AI usage above the quota goes to your provider directly with no markup from us. The right choice depends on whether you'd rather have one bill (managed) or full transparency (BYOK).

How we make $8 / user / month possible
AI synthesis is genuinely expensive — it's why most standup tools never built it. We can offer it because we engineered the cost down without cutting features.
Prompt caching cuts repeated work ~90%
Daily synthesis re-uses the same workspace context across runs. Anthropic's prompt cache lets us pay full price once per ~5 minutes and ~10% thereafter. The bulk of synthesis cost lives in the cached prefix.
Cheap models do the cheap jobs
Claude Haiku handles signal classification and triangulation T2/T3 baselines — 4× cheaper than Sonnet at quality good enough for the role. Sonnet is reserved for synthesis and capability scoring.
We don't synthesize when nothing happened
Weekends, PTO, days with zero signal: no synthesis, no charge. The biggest cost saver is simply not doing the work.

Why is Free BYOK only?+
Real AI synthesis costs real money per active user. If we covered Free-tier API bills, we'd cap usage so tightly the product wouldn't actually demo well. BYOK lets free users use RUQA at full power on their own Anthropic budget — usually $0–5 / month for a solo workspace.
What happens if I exceed my token quota on a paid plan?+
Three options, your choice in /admin/billing: (1) auto-overage at the per-million rate listed on your tier, (2) attach your own Anthropic key — usage above quota goes there with no markup, or (3) hard-cap at the quota and show users a 'limit reached' notice. Default is option 1.
Can I bring my own AI key on a paid tier?+
Yes, on every paid tier. RUQA costs the same; AI usage above your included quota bills to your provider directly with no markup from us.
Do you charge for failed AI calls?+
No. If a request fails (network error, provider outage, rate limit), it doesn't count against your quota.
What does the annual discount actually save?+
20% off the per-user list price, billed once a year. A 25-person team on Pro saves $1,200 / year versus monthly billing.
Is there a startup or non-profit discount?+
Yes. 50% off Pro for the first year if your company is <2 years old and has raised <$2M. Apply at startups@ruqa.ai. Education and OSS maintainer discounts also exist — see the discounts list above.
Can I self-host instead?+
Yes. The core is AGPL v3 — clone, deploy on your own Vercel + Supabase, bring your own keys. Commercial license available for closed-source SaaS use; contact licensing@ruqa.ai.
